Minister Starović: Serbia Remains Firmly Committed to the European Path and Expects the EU to Recognise the Concrete Results of the Reforms.

At the 18th meeting of the European Union – Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC), Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović said that Serbia continues to work intensively on fulfilling all obligations under the European Union accession process.

“In the previous period, we have demonstrated clear political will and concrete results in implementing the reforms. It is of particular importance that we received a positive opinion from the Venice Commission on the set of judicial laws, which represents significant confirmation that the reforms we are implementing are in line with European standards and recommendations of our European partners,” Minister Starović stressed.

He emphasised that Serbia continues to implement the Reform Agenda, improve electoral legislation in line with OSCE/ODIHR recommendations, as well as to further strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions.

“We expect the European Union to acknowledge the progress Serbia has made and to enable the opening of Cluster 3, which has been technically ready since December 2021, without further delay. The accession process must remain based on merits, objective criteria and concrete results,” Starović said.

The Minister added that Serbia’s gradual integration into the European Single Market is of key importance for economic growth, new investments and improving the living standards of citizens.

“Serbia is a reliable and responsible partner of the European Union. Our goal remains full EU membership, but at the same time we expect the enlargement policy to gain new momentum, and for candidate countries that implement the reforms to be adequately evaluated and rewarded for the results achieved,” Minister Starović concluded.
