Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović participated today in a meeting with representatives of the European Commission dedicated to the start of negotiations on the inclusion of the Republic of Serbia in the “Roam Like at Home” (RLAH) regime.
During the discussion, the next steps in the process of Serbia’s accession to the EU’s single roaming area were considered, as well as the activities that our country has implemented in the previous period with the aim of full harmonisation with the EU acquis in the field of electronic communications and roaming.
Minister Starović presented the results achieved by Serbia in the process of harmonising the legislative framework with EU regulations, including the drafting of amendments to the Law on Electronic Communications and accompanying by-laws, which created the necessary regulatory prerequisites for the successful conducting of negotiations and the future implementation of the “Roam Like at Home” regime.
The interlocutors agreed that Serbia’s inclusion in the European roaming area would represent a significant step in the process of gradual integration into the EU’s single market, as well as a concrete benefit for the citizens and the economy of Serbia through more favourable use of mobile communication services during their stay in EU Member States.
Starović stressed that Serbia remains committed to implementing reforms and fulfilling all obligations under the European Union accession process, emphasising that improving the connectivity of citizens and businesses with the European area is one of the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
At the meeting, it was assessed that Serbia’s progress to date represents a good foundation for continuing negotiations and that cooperation with the EU institutions shall be continued with the aim of establishing the “Roam Like at Home” regime between Serbia and the European Union as soon as possible.
