Final Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Project “Development of System for Management of Cohesion Policy” Held

The final meeting of the Steering Committee of the project “Development of System for Management of Cohesion Policy” was held at the Ministry of European Integration. The project was financed by the European Union through the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA II) and implemented in cooperation with a consortium led by GIZ. The beneficiary of the project was the Ministry of European Integration.

Cohesion policy represents a key instrument of the European Union for reducing regional disparities and strengthening economic, social, and territorial cohesion. Upon accession to the EU, Serbia will have access to cohesion policy funds, and the preparation and development of institutional capacities for their effective management represents one of the priorities in the accession process.

The project aimed to prepare the public administration of the Republic of Serbia for the efficient management of EU funds after accession. The project activities focused on three key components: establishing a legislative and institutional framework, preparing programming documents for IPA III, and strengthening administrative capacities at all levels of government.

Owing to the implementation of this project, Serbia has taken an important step in preparing for EU membership and has demonstrated readiness for the future use of cohesion policy funds. The Ministry of European Integration will continue its activities aimed at fulfilling the obligations under Chapter 22 – Regional Policy and Coordination of Structural Instruments, with the goal of further strengthening capacities for the future use of cohesion policy funds.
