Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević met today in Belgrade with Erin McKee, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia. Minister Miščević expressed gratitude to the United States for the assistance provided to the Republic of Serbia since 2001, totalling over USD 1.2 billion, with more than USD 937 million allocated for development purposes.
“We are in discussions with our USAID partners regarding the next budget period from 2026 to 2031 to jointly define priorities for continued support, which will be formalised through a new bilateral Cooperation Strategy,” said Miščević. She also noted that future cooperation was being planned with consideration of the EU Growth Plan, a new instrument that would shape reform processes in Serbia. “The shared goal is for USAID’s development assistance to provide additional support for reforms critical to Serbia’s EU membership,” emphasised Miščević. .
Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia at USAID Erin McKee reaffirmed the United States of America’s commitment to supporting Serbia’s EU accession efforts and discussed opportunities for assisting Serbia’s reforms. Representatives of USAID and the Ministry also explored joint initiatives in accordance with the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
Erin McKee emphasised USAID’s commitment to supporting reforms essential for Serbia’s EU membership, including improving the business environment, fostering private sector development, supporting Serbia’s digital advancement, and assisting its transition to energy independence, along with the development of the renewable energy sector and improving energy efficiency.
“We are proud to support Serbia’s efforts toward economic growth and alignment with the EU,” stated Erin McKee. “This partnership builds on the more than USD 937 million in USAID assistance to date, which has supported Serbia on its path to European integration.”
