Miščević: We have to prove that we have a competent economic market

The economic criterion requires that a country that wants to become part of the EU prove that the market in its territory is based on the rules of competition and the competence of its economy, Minister of European Integration Tanja Miščević pointed out today.

The Minister said this at the opening of the first regional “Info Day” of the European Innovation Council (EIC), where startups were presented with funding opportunities and the “Accelerator” programme.

Miščević said that she expects a lot in terms of the European integration path and the prosperity of our country, and as for the EU Delegation, she says that we are working with them on establishing a good partnership.

“The need for economic development is important, and that part, I do not need to explain further. With this programme, we also meet the criteria, and one of the criteria for EU membership is a stable democracy, stable democratic institutions, which are the first and most important element”, said the Minister.

As she stated, the second criterion is an economic one and requires that a country that wants to become part of the EU prove that it has a market in its territory that is based on the rules of competition and competence of its economy.

“I had the pleasure of meeting people from the EIC for the first time”, said Miščević and stated that we “witness that every day there are more and more ideas in terms of ‘boosting’ development, which will help us achieve new innovations”.

“When we discussed today the potential that the EIC gives to researchers, innovators and smaller companies, we were actually talking about Serbia’s preparation to become a full-fledged EU member”, Miščević said.

She points out that no matter how successful individual companies are, that success can always use the support of the EIC.

We will monitor, we will discuss constantly, she says, and adds that we will not only discuss the potential of additional aid coming from the EU but that we will “strive to establish a Serbian innovation fund”.

Today in Belgrade, the first-ever regional “Info Day” of the European Innovation Council (EIC) is being held at the Metropol Hotel, where startups will be presented with funding opportunities and the “Accelerator” programme.

Minister Miščević thanked the adviser from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, Milun Trivunac, and pointed out that everyone from the CCIS is not only a strong supporter but also a partner in Serbia’s European integration.

The event was organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia in cooperation with the EIC and EISMEA, with the support of the European Network of Entrepreneurship from Southeast Europe (SEE) consortium.
