On 30 November 2022, the European Commission officially adopted the new IPA Adriatic-Ionian Programme 2021-2027 (IPA ADRION).
The IPA ADRION programme is a European territorial cooperation programme that functions at the transnational level. The programming area includes Croatia, Greece, Slovenia, and Italy with the regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria, and Sicily, as well as the two autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano. Among the countries that are not EU members, there are Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Republic of San Marino.
In relation to the previous programming period, the programming territory was extended to include the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of San Marino. The accession of North Macedonia to the programme further strengthens the links between the sea basin and the hinterland, and the participation of San Marino bridges the territorial gap on the western side of the Adriatic Sea. This new configuration overlaps with the countries participating in the EU macro-regional Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian region, making the area of EUSAIR and IPA ADRION perfectly aligned.
The total value of the IPA ADRION programme is EUR 160,810,020.00, of which EUR 65,848,129.00 are from the European Fund for Regional Development, EUR 70,840,386.00 are financed from the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance IPA III, while the remaining 15% of the funds is co-financed by countries participating in the programme.
Priority areas funded under the programme include innovation, environment, mobility, and support for the Adriatic-Ionian macro-regional strategy.
