At the session of Government of the Republic of Serbia held on 17 June 2005, the National Strategy of Serbia for the Accession of Serbia and Montenegro to the European Union was adopted. This document was prepared and implemented by the Government of Serbia, even though the name of the state union is contained in its title.
The aim of the National Strategy is to integrate the obligations arising from the Stabilisation and Association Process into a comprehensive development strategy of Serbia, which aims at transforming the country into a stable democratic society with a functioning market economy. This strategy also served as the basis for drafting the “National Programme for European Integration”, which was prepared only after the Stabilisation and Association Agreement was signed.
